Here we are standing on the Great Wall of China. I never thought we would have this awesome experience. Of course, I never thought we would ever see Korea either.
The Great Wall was one of the greatest experiences of my life. It is not because of it awesome history and size, although it is all of that. The overall good spirit among humanity was what I noticed most. There were people from all over the world there. Everyone seemed to be smiling, laughing, and taking pictures. Strangers would come up to us and ask to have our pictures taken with them. People dressed in all kinds of religious attire walked among us and we all felt like one happy family on the wall. It was awesome. I didn't want to leave. I told Phuong that world peace could happen if the same spirit we felt on the wall towards our fellow humanity could somehow flow into all other parts of society, government and world leaders. No one seemed suspicious of anyone. All seemed so joyous and happy just to be there experiencing a one world attitude that I have only dreamed and preached about until now. I come from the wall with a renewed hope for the world. I found myself laughing and giggling at times with the rest of the crowd. It was like a big party and the whole world was represented. Language barriers didn't matter. Smiles and friendly gestures were the order of the day. No pushing and shoving or hateful looks on this day. When you did accidentally bump into someone they would just turn around and smile and say "hello" the best they could and go on their way. As you can tell I was a little overwhelmed by the experience.
We saw other things in China of course, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace and the Temple of Heaven, etc. We got a glimpse of the Olympic stadium and the village, but nothing compared with the Great Wall.
A few pictures below are of strangers who requested our pictures with them. There are more.
