It is mid-day Jan. 1 here in icy Korea. We left Singapore early yesterday morning with 80 degree weather and landed with snow on the ground. The forecast shows no thawing for several days here. A nice day for staying in and reflecting over the past year.
In many ways it has been awesome with so many opportunities to travel and see some exotic parts of the world. We have been to China 2 times, Singapore, and Indonesia, not to mention Korea and the U.S. My passport got full, so, I had to have more pages inserted. Yesterday the customs agent had to stamp over stamps on the Korean page! In 3 weeks we fly again, so, the agent will have to start a new page to begin stamping, I guess.
I never dreamed we would be world travelers. When I was young it was a fantasy to think about just getting out of Missouri. Now, we reflect on the many cultures we have experienced this past year and more scheduled for the new year--the Philippines in February.
It has also been a challenging year. We have now been in Korea 3 years and planning our future is complicated and uncertain. I love the different cultures. I found Singapore to be a melting pot of cultures. If someone wants to visit a place where you literally rub shoulders with many Asian cultures, Singapore is the place.
I am not sure what to do with the next few years. I guess at 60 I am still learning to take things one day at a time, but future planning seems to be a priority at this stage of life. Much of what I used to do seems so insignificant compared to what we are experiencing today. Regardless, God seems to have a way of making opportunities available. In the meantime we rejoice over what has been and look with anticipation to what might be.
The family continues to grow with another grand baby to arrive in July in Singapore. So I think July is planned! After that the future is wide open at this time (isn't it always?).
