Historical Kyongbok Palace in Seoul

2 weeks ago it rained hard all day in Seoul as we toured the foreign cemetery. This day was perfect with clear skies and warm temperatures as we spent Saturday on the old palace grounds. It was our anniversary week-end (may 30) so the three of us celebrated in grand fashion. As you will see by the pictures there are many ceremonies and parades. This palace along with most historical buildings in Korea was destroyed during the Japanese Hideyoshi invasions (16th c). One historian writes about the consequences of these invasions this way: "There is hardly a building left in Korea today, except those made of stone, which antedates the Hideyoshi invasions." The palace was rebuilt 273 later. This is an easy place to visit since the subway station is very close. It only takes about 20-25 minutes of subway travelling (incl. one transfer) from Seoul Station to the palace. Subway travelling only cost 1,000 won ($1.00) in Seoul. The entry fee to the palace was 3,000 won. The above picture set up was free as was the photo. These gowns are what the guards wear in the parade ceremonies. I personally love my necklace. I may buy one of these outfits and use it for my preaching attire! It beats picking out a tie!! And the big stick? Just think what I could do with that in a sermon!
