A special occasion part 1

A clear sky and a cool breeze reminds us that fall is coming soon. It is eerily quiet in our part of Korea as the sun beds down for the night. The harvest moon prepares for her grand entrance later as Koreans are busy shutting down their businesses--it is Chuseok weekend. It is much like America Thanksgiving weekend when the expressways and airports are full to capacity. Families will travel today and tonight to reach their destinations and then celebrate Chuseok tomorrow with old family traditions.
Most restaurants are closed now. The dormitory is all but empty, only the foreign students and professors are left behind to make do the best they can. LiPing, our Chinese student, will be joining us in a few moments to "play," as she puts it. We are hoping it means to watch a movie (7 Brides for 7 Brothers) and eat some popcorn with us since that is our plan! Her roommates are gone so she is mostly alone although many Chinese students are here. She doesn't know most of them and her closest Chinese friends have traveled away with Korean friends to celebrate. She is working at a nearby Baskin Robbins which doesn't close since it is not a Korean based franchise.
Bonnie and I were walking back from Baskin Robbins a few minutes ago when 2 Koreans stopped us on the sidewalk and asked us if we had plans for Saturday. When we said we had no plans they smiled at us and invited us to their home tomorrow morning for breakfast at 8:00. They live just across from our dormitory. They wrote down the information for us and said they would go and prepare for our coming tomorrow with a traditional Chuseok breakfast.
They seemed so excited we are coming tomorrow! When we parted I asked Bonnie if the girl was her student. We soon discovered that neither of us knew the girl or her mother! At least we could not recall who they are. So tomorrow we will go to the home and eat a traditional Korean breakfast prepared for us and hopefully find out who our host is! I will blog tomorrow and let you know how it all went. In the meantime the moon is rising over Korea to help celebrate the harvest of another year! Happy Chuseok to all Koreans!!
