A blog from the USA side of the Pacific seems appropriate. On this trip we find most of the U.S. shivering under one of the coldest spells in 20 years. 70% of the country is affected, including the deep south. The temperature today was only 8 degrees F and tomorrow promises to be even colder with a high temperature of perhaps 0 to 1 degree F with wind chills in the 20 below range. The only word I can think of is--brutal!
This kind of weather of course leaves one confined indoors. Unlike summer when jogs and outdoor activities can fill up a day, the indoor confinement quickly brings boredom and, shall I say, overeating. What esle can one do to pass the time?
I am reading Jesus wants to Save Christians by Rob Bell and Don Golden. It is one of those books I would NOT recommend to anyone satisfied with the system and the way things are going in the church world. It is a book I wish I could have written. Although I have not yet completed it I have many of the same thoughts the authors do but have not found a way to express them as well.
I especially like the part on page 43 where they speak about God needing a body, flesh and blood, to show the world a proper marriage of the divine and human. And then later they ask, "what happens when your body looks nothing like you?" Whoa dude! That's deep.
Well, it's better to be thinking about that then to just be staring out the window watching a 30 MPH wind rearranging the snow drifts. Speaking of which, maybe the Holy Spirit, like wind, can rearrange a few things in me during this time. Rearranging a few drifts wouldn't be all bad, and I don't mean the mid-drift.
