Mid-term is passed and the countdown to the end of the semester has begun--5 weeks of teaching, then finals. Time goes quickly here. Our girls are coming over in May to visit and that is exciting.
Korea is still very exciting to me. Everyday seems a new adventure. This week has been especially eventful. I was asked to speak in the faculty chapel. I spoke in English without interpretation to about 250 faculty and staff members. It was an English chapel with everything in English. Most of my sermon was on power point to help the Koreans to understand better. Some of them know enough English that they knew most of what I said, while others knew little English. Bonnie lead a women's ensemble in special singing.
Our President, Dr. Im , then asked me to join him the next day in the early morning student chapel at 7:00 and speak to them in summary my sermon. About 1,000 students filled Faith Hall, sometimes called "Holiness Hall." I was told to speak about 10 minutes since the chapel time is only 30 minutes long. He interpreted for me. Just before walking up to the pulpit he told me to speak 20 minutes! I think it went well, and we did get out on time which the students loved!!
Then, later the same day, I spoke to the student English chapel. I did 3 chapels in 2 days. It was quite an experience. I must admit I was very apprehensive before the faculty chapel since what we were doing was new to all of us. Until now, all faculty chapels were in Korean. I think the faculty English chapel service was an experiment. Only the leadership here knows if it was successful or not. If so, ,they may try it again sometime. If not, oh well! I did get lunch with the Chaplain's office! Maybe that is a good sign.
Bonnie and I are extremely tired now. We always are at this point in the semester. We look for down time whereever we can find it. There has been none this week, but the pressure is now off about these chapels and so relaxation will come this weekend, unless the phone rings! More later...
